The Montane Hydrogen Direct Jacket is made using an Alpha Direct fleece inner which provides an extremely warm yet lightweight insulation layer; sitting close to the body the directional fleece offers a powerful wicking action and light, airy feel.
Montane pioneered the use of PERTEX® and fleece pile linings 20 years ago to create a micro-climate to regulate body temperature and move moisture whilst active. The Hydrogen Direct Jacket takes inspiration from our heritage whilst harnessing the latest in cutting edge Alpha Direct insulation technology from POLARTEC®. With a windproof PERTEX® QUANTUM AIR outer shell the Hydrogen Direct Jacket provides a perfect blend of insulation, wind protection and breathability in one unique package.
Montane's Hydrogen Direct Insulated Jacket uses Polartec Alpha breathable insulation, a more modern version of a lightweight fleece, that keeps you warm but lets sweat out, even when active. Polartec Alpha Direct insulation is basically the same but with the mesh liner removed, so you get more unimpeded airflow (not to mention less weight and bulk) without sacrificing warmth. It also feels super soft against your skin!
Designed to be worn when you are active - so on the move - there are alternative insulation garments that are more suited to wearing around camp - Polartec Alpha Direct is about keeping you vented even though you are also being kept insulated.
Its quite a breakthrough, especially for cold weather walking when you need insulation but start sweating hard when you reach a strenuous bit. Weight for weight Polartec Alpha is only about half as warm as PrimaLoft so the king of insulation keeps its crown - but Alpha has its place.
With this jacket the outer fabric is constructed from an open structured Pertex Quantum Air which enables the insulation to breathe fully. A good match as you wouldn't want the outer layer to cancel out the breathability of the inner.
