The Hole in the Wall stands out from the crowd with its design while performing brilliantly. The vertical baffles have flow gates that keep the down in place keeping you warm. Great design features coupled with 700 Fill Power hydrophobic down make this a winner.
Big Agnes says:
Utilizing the same innovative materials and systems as our award winning sleeping bags, we have created a line of warm, technical, and insulating jackets that are just as ready for dawn patrol turns as they are for sunset happy hours. With 700 fill power DownTek™ you can add warmth to your jacket quiver without increasing bulk.
Big Agnes's Hole in the Wall Down Jacket goes against the conventional horizontal baffles which gives it quite a distinctive look. However, the technology behind this ensures that the down does not gather at the bottom of each baffle by using small flow gates which keep the down equally distributed while allowing heat to transfer along them more effectively. The vertical baffles are supposed to fit to the contours of your body more easily, it's hard to say whether this is the case but it is certainly a really comfortable jacket to wear.
With a number of smart and practical features it is a very usable jacket on a day-to-day basis. Along with two decent sized zipped hand warmer pockets there is a zipped chest pocket with a cool little hole inside it going into the the jacket so that you can plug in your headphones while your device is securely stored in it. Two internal mesh drop pocket increase your storage options further. A good sized collar, drawcord hem and thumb loops on the elasticated cuffs make this a very comfortable jacket to wear.
