The Cosmic range of bags are an excellent entry level down sleeping bag option. When durability, warmth and value are prioritised over weight and pack size the Cosmic is a great choice of bag.
Remember the trapezoid from 10th-grade geometry? Turns out, this funky ol’ shape is ideal for helping sleeping bag baffles retain heat. The women’s specific Cosmic features trapezoidal baffle construction for increased thermal efficiency—and it’s just one of the reasons the Kelty Women's Cosmic Down 20 is still our favorite three-season superstar. We also love the natural-fit foot box for happier feet, and a PFC-free water-repellent coating for a healthier environment.
What makes it a women’s bag? It’s designed for and tested to women’s specific ISO standards. Studies show that women “sleep colder” than men. So, in addition to narrower shoulders, wider hips and a shorter torso, our women’s bags have extra insulation in the upper body and footbox.
Kelty's Womens Cosmic 20 Down Sleeping Bag provides a good amount of warmth and comfort. The bag uses trapezoidal baffles to allow the down to loft more and trap more heat. Using 868g of 550FP down you are getting a massive amount of insulation which is reflected in the -11°C Comfort Limit. It has all the features you'd expect from a top of the range bag with a draft tube down the anti-snag zipper, shoulder baffles and a close fitting hood.
For the set of features and level of warmth at this price there are some other costs and these come in the weight of the bag and it's pack size. The Cosmic range definitely provides excellent value for money as long as you are fine with the heavier weight and larger pack size compared to more expensive alternatives. It is certainly a perfect piece of kit for car camping in particularly cold conditions.
