The Cosmic Air is a lightweight sleeping mat that works well for summer season and mild weather use. Simple, effective, great value and durable.

Kelty says:

Compact on the trail and comfy on the ground, our non-insulated, lightweight Cosmic Air Pad is ready to rock after just a few puffs. Plus, it folds up small in its stuff sack! Pair it with its sibling, our Cosmic bag—or any mummy—for compact comfort under the stars.

Kelty's Cosmic Air Mummy Sleeping Mat provides excellent value for anyone getting into camping. The Cosmic Air is easy to use and is made with durable 20D laminated material and a solid, reliable valve. The Cosmic Air has a decent pack size and a fairly low weight. The lack of insulation helps with both of these but does mean that this is a summer and mild weather only sleeping mat. However, at this price it is difficult to beat for anyone heading out camping for the first time.

ASTM R-Value:

From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.

You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.

In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures. This will be also be dependent on your sleeping bag, how cold you sleep etc. Please contact our customer service team if you need advice on choosing the right mat for your activity.
