This hooped bivy provides a nice spacious shelter for sleeping in. The structured head end makes it feel more tent like in poor conditions. A combination of top quality materials and construction result in a high performing bit of kit.
Big Agnes says:
The Three Wire Bivy is a four-season, single-wall solo bivy shelter designed for the ultralight minimalist who values additional space and comfort. The external DAC NFL poles set-up quickly, providing extra room overhead as well as covered venting under the awning. The extra-long side zipper allows for easy entry/exit with a full mesh layer underneath for venting in good weather. The lightweight nylon, ripstop fabric floor provides ultra-durability and the 3-layer fabric with electrospun nanofiber technology provides high rates of waterproofing and breathability to help manage moisture and keep your interior microclimate totally comfortable.
Big Agnes's Three Wire Bivy uses external poles for the a structured set up that gives you a good amount of internal space. The hoops provide structure, space and protection that make it much better than an un-hooped bivy particularly when the weather is poor. It is a versatile design with a bug net, extended zip entry, external pole set up and oversized peg out points. The combination of design features means that this bivy works as well in warm summer conditions where keeping the bugs out is your main concern through to winter conditions where setting up in the cold and using large blizzard stakes are needed.
The overall weight is decent enough for a four season bag while the 10,000 HH and 30,000 MVTR are both impressive stats that make this a great bag to use in a variety of conditions. The fabrics used are durable, DAC poles are used and the clips and pole sleeves all combine to make this a quality piece of kit.
