Katadyn's Hiker Pro Transparent Water Filter does a great job of making your water safe when drinking from natural sources. The microfilter can clean a litre of water in under one minute, removing bacteria and protazoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium. With a number of accessories and versatile attachment points the Hiker Pro is an impressively versatile piece of kit. It is a bit on the chunky side but the carry bag helps to keep all of the kit together and for piece of mind it is well worth taking though.
It's a bit labour intensive as it takes a bit of time and effort using the pump but this isn't something that has bothered me too much knowing that the water is good at the end of the process. One slight issue is how it clogs up when the water has bits of sediment in it so you have to be wary at the source and willing to clean it pretty regularly. This can be reduced by quickly filtering the water if its cloudy beforehand or cleaning after each use which, thankfully is an easy task.
