The inclusion of the amazing Polartec Alpha insulation in the Ascendant glove is a great idea. This provides a decent level of insulation but it's performance during more intense sessions is when it really stands out.
Outdoor Research says:
Resilient alpine weather protection, stretch, and touch screen compatibility packed into the do-it-all Active insulation gloves.
Outdoor industry employees, reviewers, and enthusiasts already love the Ascendant collection for its unbeatable weather resistance, warmth, breathability and quick-drying qualities - not to mention its incredible light weight, packability, and coziness. So it only made sense to spread the love, and develop a glove that could perform all of the same tasks that adventurers need from the rest of their technical mid layers. Meet the Ascendant Sensor Gloves: Fabric innovation powered by the heralded Polartec® Alpha® Active Insulation technology, with added support from the weather-resistant Pertex® Quantum Air outer shell and touchscreen functionality from Sensor™ technology. Choose these gloves when you want warmth during cold activities, wicking and quick-drying capabilities during high-exertion sports, weather resistance when the forecast might not hold up, and well, practically any other time you head into the alpine needing a versatile, all-in-one protective handwear solution.
Outdoor Research Ascendant Sensor Gloves are perfect for anyone who will be out and active in cold conditions. The Polartec Alpha direct insulation gives a decent amount of warmth but the main benefit of these gloves is the ability to breath, wick and dry quickly. This means that you get some protection from the cold but on those tough ascents when you'd normally be sweating and taking your gloves off these work amazingly well.
With a good sized Velcro wrist closure and leather palm (which is also touch screen compatible) they are really practical. I love the properties of Alpha material and especially in these gloves and I'm simply going to get a waterproof shell mitt for that extra protection this winter as nothing else seems to perform as well.
