The AX45 Rucksack is a tough, lightweight alpine pack made from lightweight Cordura and durable Dyneema ripstop fabric. The hip belt can be removed to save weight.
The AX45 is the literally the old 2nd generation AK47 cut from a different cloth. Instead of the AKs famous Kevlar fabric, the AX45 has a lighter Cordura fabric with a 3 mm Dyneema ripstop developed exclusively to our specification. Elsewhere, we switched the full frame to twin tubular stays and downsized all the webbing (which adds a surprising amount of weight to a rucksack).
Although the carrying harness is identical to that of the AK sacks, the AX45 has a new feature – the hip belt can be fully removed, leaving just the webbing to fasten around your waist.
Crux's AX45 Rucksack is constructed from very durable Dyneema ripstop Cordura fabric and the back system is a firmly stiffened design. There is less padding on the shoulder straps and hipbelt than on other packs, and the back panel is stiffer than those of rivals. This spells more stability with heavier loads, but less comfort with lighter loads. There is no length adjustment, just tensioning straps to define the fit.
It features a single main compartment with a fixed lid and snow-lock extension. The lid pocket is a good size, ideal for maps or guidebooks but there are neither hipbelt pockets nor a front stretch stash pocket for a jacket between showers. The pack sits close so would be ideal for scrambling.
