The Flare is ultra lightweight and ultra compact with an output of 40 lumens. At this weight and size you are getting an ideal headtorch for emergency situations and use around camp.
Black Diamond says:
Built to support any adventure, the Flare is an emergency headlamp that’s lightweight and compact, while remaining extremely robust. Featuring 40 lumens of dependable light that runs off two Lithium CR2032 batteries housed in a burly aluminum housing, the Flare stows easily in a chalk bag zip pocket, a glove box, or emergency kit and can be deployed in any weather thanks to its IP67 submersible waterproof construction. The low-profile headband keeps the Flare minimal yet secure when worn. In addition to its low and full-strength white modes, the Flare includes red, strobe, and SOS modes to complete the Flare’s undisputed status as the ultimate emergency light at the ready for any mission.
Black Diamond's Flare Headlamp is designed as an emergency light, meaning that the design is focussed on an extremely low weight and small pack size with additional features such as an IP67 waterproof rating and emergency light settings. However, during the summer months this is probably all you need in British conditions as it has 5 different light settings with a high of 40 lumens and a low 4 lumens, with three additional emergency settings. Even at the brightest setting the run time is a good 4 hours (with a 6 hour reserve for the low) while the low setting provides 15 hours of run time. It only uses two small CR2032 batteries so it's easy to carry spares.
