The Outdoor Research Transcendent Jacket is a warm, versatile and super comfortable down jacket, now with an improved style and fit. Ideal for using as a technical midlayer or as your go-to winter jacket.
Outdoor Research says:
The Transcendent series has been a long-time puffy favorite for climbers, backpackers, mountaineers, and everyone else who spends extended time outside. So we took what you loved - and what you asked for - to create the dramatically redesigned Transcendent Collection. Injected with all-natural responsibly sourced down, the new Transcendent uses wider quilting and a rebalanced down fill to allow its insulation to loft better for fast, compressible warmth.
Fresh, modern design lines and colors, trusted lightweight weather resistance, and feature-packed details add even more reasons for adventurers to rely on the Transcendent to excel in their sport. Even if you haven't quite loved your last puffy to death yet, we promise that the new Transcendent will make you reconsider retirement and upgrading to the latest and greatest.
When most styles are updated they usually just change something small, but with the Transcendent range Outdoor Research have pretty much created what looks like a whole new jacket. It may have a similar down content but it somehow feels a lot warmer than before. This could be down to the fact the new quilt patterns are bigger which allows the jacket to loft a little more to increase it's warmth. Another big change is the fabric used. The really soft polyester 20D ripstop fabric is now used for both the shell and the lining to improve it's comfort and durability, while keeping the weight down.
Its well made with the right features, twin handwarmer pockets are lined on the front with micro fleece and the left hand one doubles as a stuffsack. There's a also a chest pocket and internal stuff-it pockets so there's plenty of storage space for keeping kit close to hand. The cinchable hem and simple elasticated binding on the cuffs help to keep the heat in and the cold out.
A 650 fill power is not the highest available but still considered to be premium, but this is reflected in the price of the jacket. It also means it's a lot more versatile as it has a wide range of comfort, weather using it as a technical midlayer or as your go-to winter puffy.
