Despite delivering softshell performance Outdoor Research's VooDoo pants are still pretty light. Super stretchy fabric with multiple pockets, ideal for climbing, trekking or everyday use.
Outdoor Research says:
The technical wicking and breathing function of the Voodoo Pants’ double weave soft shell construction matched with its casual jean styling, makes them popular at both the crag and the brewpub. Also available in a 30 inch inseam.
Outdoor Research's Voodoo Pants are made from a softshell fabric which will shed light showers and dry quickly. When choosing trekking trousers you would probably go for lightweight materials if trekking in a hot country, but for typical Northern European conditions it can be a good idea to choose softshell. They tend to be a bit heavier than standard trekking trousers, but their weather shedding properties are worth having and the material tends to be tougher.
The Voodoo pants are a good example of this type of trouser, the fabric is a lightweight softshell making these trousers almost as light as non-softshell. Feature-wise they have a mix of five open or zippered pockets, a zip fly and an active gusset in the crotch. This latter feature means you won't get excessive strain on the seams when taking a large stride or climbing. There are belt loops and copious amounts of bartacking so they are unlikely to let you down. There's no adjustment at the hem but the stretch in the fabric means the cut can be quite narrow without affecting freedom of movement.
