The AX50 Rucksack is a tough, lightweight alpine pack made from lightweight Cordura and durable Dyneema ripstop fabric. The hip belt can be removed to save weight.
The AX50 is the same as the AX45, but with a floating, removable lid for greater versatility in packing different size loads. If we were comparing these to the AK range, whilst the AX45 is basically an AK47, you could say the AX50 is an AK47-X.
The AX50 has every necessary feature that is required from an all-round big mountain or alpine sack. It weighs just over a kilo and does so without any compromise in toughness and durability. It’ll handle every piece of abuse you can throw at it. As with the AX45, the AX50 takes the existing AK carrying system that has been modified to allow the hip-belt to be removable.
Crux's AX50 Rucksack is constructed from very durable Dyneema ripstop Cordura fabric and the back system is a firmly stiffened design. There is less padding on the shoulder straps and hipbelt than on other packs, and the back panel is stiffer than those of rivals. This spells more stability with heavier loads, but less comfort with lighter loads. There is no length adjustment, just tensioning straps to define the fit.
It features a single main compartment with a floating, removable lid and snow-lock extension. The lid pocket is a good size, ideal for maps or guidebooks but there are neither hipbelt pockets nor a front stretch stash pocket for a jacket between showers. The pack sits close so would be ideal for scrambling.
