The Big Agnes Frying Pan SL 2 is a three season, free standing, lightweight tent with a strong structure, plenty of useful features and a generous living space. A good price point for a versatile tent.
Big Agnes says:
The Frying Pan SL is a shelter versatile enough for backpacking, road-trip camping and all pitches in between. Two large "D" shaped doors with two vestibules make your entry and exit seamless while the steep walls give you plenty of elbow room for changing clothes or playing dominoes while you wait out a storm. Easy to pitch, with generous living space, this is a great option for someone wanting just one tent to do it all.
The Big Agnes Frying Pan SL 2 Tent is the type of do-it-all tent that you can take almost anywhere. Stronger than your ultralight tents but obviously not as light, but at under 2000g it's still a reasonable weight for backpacking.
Even at this low weight it provides all the creature comforts including double doors and vestibules for easy entry and exit, quick stash door keepers, tons of interior storage pockets, a fly vent for increased airflow and decrease condensation and best of all is the steep-wall architecture creating more livable space so there's no more elbowing each other when changing clothes.
This versatile tent comes with it's own footprint for extra protection on rough ground. This also means you can use just the footprint and fly for for the 'fast fly set up' for those warmer days when you want to pack lighter.
