The Spire Pants are mid-weight softshell pants, offering exceptional freedom of movement for alpine climbing and mountaineering.
Designed using mid weight Matrix double weave stretch fabric, the Spire Pants are built to enhance your movement on the wildest terrain, from negotiating narrow ridge lines covered in snow to thrutching up steep mixed ground on rock and ice.
A diamond gusset and articulated knees means you can make hard moves comfortably and efficiently, whilst overlaid stretch reinforcement panels on the knee and instep give extra durability. The Spire pants can be fine tuned to fit personal requirements, with a removable webbing belt, and attachment points for braces and under boot cord.
Rab's Spire Pants look similar to the Torque Pants but with a few added features. The webbing belt on the Spire Pant is removable, it has a thigh pocket instead of a rear pocket and it comes with attachment points for optional braces.
It uses Rab's own Matrix DWS fabric which offers excellent performance, shedding showers without a problem. The reinforcement is excellent, it extends from the knee down the inside of the leg to the ankle. There's a zip expanding leg closure to fit over your boots and webbing loops at the hem for under boot cord attachment.
Many people choose softshell pants over lighter weight trekking trousers because they shed the weather much better and are generally more durable - we say that it depends on where you are going - you can still save a lot of weight by choosing standard pants but if you need particularly heavy durability, or you know that you're going to have light showers on and off - then softshell maybe a better choice in that instance.
