It used to be somewhat mythical: A warm, stretchy breathable layer you could put on and leave on through high-output, stop-and-go activities in cold weather. That is, until Patagonia's Nano-Air fabric broke onto the active insulation scene and redefined how we layer in the cold.
The Nano-Air® Vest was made to be worn for the entirety of your aerobic, start-stop alpine missions, so you’re never slowed down by changing layers. Warm, stretchy and breathable THERMOLITE® insulation dumps excess heat when you’re moving and keeps you warm when you’re not. Fair Trade Certified™ sewn.
Patagonia's Nano-Air Vest takes a featherweight fabric and midweight 60g/m2 synthetic insulation and makes a vest that provides an instant big hit of warmth in a superlight and very packable package. As always with Patagonia gear there's a very high quality finish to this garment. You get two hand-warmer pockets and a chest pocket, these make the jacket a bit more useful as a standalone piece over a fleece but we think it would thrive as a beefy, winter midlayer.
In order to keep the weight down, there's no adjustment to the hem, but it is elasticated. This will do an OK job at keeping the warm air inside the jacket but could be improved in future iterations of this jacket.
