This wind shell has just been added to the Helium range for OR so you can be sure this hooded jacket will provide a good balance of weight and performance.
Outdoor Research says:
The best-selling and award-winning Helium Collection is getting even bigger, and lighter - with the addition of the Helium Wind Hoodie. This wind shell is powered by the same durable lightweight Diamond Fuse technology that you'll find in our Down and Rain gear, reimagined to take on gusty runs, climbs, bike rides, and anywhere else you'd encounter a headwind. Complementing the super strong Diamond Fuse exterior, the Men's Helium Wind Hoodie sports laser-perforated underarm vents and a refined hood design that stays put when you're moving fast.
Outdoor Research's Helium Wind Hoodie seems a simple wind shell on first inspection but there are some nice features included that make this a nice jacket to wear for a range of activities. The jacket uses 30D Pertex Diamond Fuse fabric that may not be as lightweight as other wind shells but this makes it a lot more durable than many others. There are perforations under the arms that make a huge difference to the breathability when you heat up.
The hood and cuffs are part-elasticated, which is also backed with a soft comfortable liner, so they stay in space but are never too tight which is ideal for wearing layer underneath. The hem has an elasticated draw cord for making quick adjustments. The jacket is not as close fitting as I would normally go for but this does help when worn over a mid layer. A single chest pocket doubles as the stuff sack and provides a enough storage for keys or gels.
