Montane's Featherlite Down Jacket is a really good example of this type of garment. It seems that every manufacturer is making their own version of a lightweight down jacket so we thought we'd let you know which we think is the best - this is it. Comes in ahead of others because of build quality and an excellent hood.
The Women's Featherlite Down jacket is a lightweight, windproof and water resistant down Jacket that maintains a higher loft to retain warmth, even when wet.
Insulation doesn’t get much lower in weight or bulk than this. Exceptionally light, the Featherlite™ Down Jacket is highly versatile for year round mountain activities. Wear as a mid-layer when moving quickly in really cold conditions or as outer insulation on cool evening camps. Packing down to the size of a large orange it will hardly be noticed when stowed in your backpack, whilst the PERTEX® Quantum outer fabric allows the down to loft to its capacity on demand.
Montane have recently updated all their down products with HyperDry ECO. This flurocarbon-free down exhibits an optimal blend of water resistance, fill power, durability, cleanliness and washability while diminishing it's impact on the environment.
This new version actually works out a little lighter than before, which is great considering it was a pretty lightweight jacket to start with, and it packs down just as small as before. Style wise they haven't changed much but I would say that's due to the fact it doesn't really need changed. They have added an extra internal pocket with a velcro closure. Why not? You can never have too many pockets.
Iv had a featherlite down jacket for some time and it still remains my go to jacket as soon as the cold sets in. It's perfect for winter hiking and for everyday use like walking the dog.
