Warm, lightweight, and highly compressible, these mitts are designed to provide instant insulation in severe winter conditions.
Montane says:
Filled with high quality 800 fill power down, the Anti-Freeze Down Mitts are designed for deep winter and are easy to pull on for an emergency boost of warmth over liner or fleece gloves.
Our Verdict
At 81g (Medium), the Montane Anti Freeze Down Mitts are light enough to carry as a just-in-case layer yet warm enough to make a real difference when the temperature drops. The 750+ fill power down delivers excellent loft, and the HyperDRY treatment helps preserve warmth in damp snow. However, in wet weather, they work best paired with a shell mitt.
The Pertex Quantum Eco fabric feels smooth and packs down well, while the reinforced palm adds grip and some durability for handling gear. The internal stretch wrist gaiter is effective at trapping heat and maintaining a secure fit. Dexterity is limited, as expected for down mitts, but for pulling on over liners in exposed, freezing conditions, they perform exactly as intended.
