Comfortable, unrestrictive, and built for movement, these are shorts that do their job quietly and well.
Mountain Equipment says:
These light, stretchy shorts are perfect for hot conditions. With an unrestrictive fit and fast drying time they’re ideal for long summer days hiking in the mountains. A wide, stretch waistband is comfortable wet or dry and won’t chafe under a pack.
Our Verdict
The Dynamo Shorts from Mountain Equipment are a go-to option for warm-weather walking and backpacking. They feel barely there at 164g in medium, but they still offer enough coverage and durability for long days out. The EXOLITE 100 fabric balances airflow and abrasion resistance well, and the PFAS-free DWR is welcome for brief showers or a damp undergroth. The deep stretch waistband is a highlight for me; it is soft, secure, and stable under a rucksack, even when wet. I found the thigh and rear pockets useful for small essentials, and their placement avoids bulk or bounce.
I’d consider them best for fast-moving days when you want to stay cool without fussing with kit. They are also Ideal for warm, high-output days where comfort and simplicity are the priorities.
