Our Verdict
At 381g (medium), the Protium sits comfortably in the mid-layer bracket, offering reliable warmth from its Thermo Grid fleece without tipping into bulk. I’ve found the cut trim but not restrictive, with enough stretch in the fabric to move easily. The collar sits snugly and the fleece breathes well when working hard, making it a strong choice across a range of seasons.
Over 90% of the fabric and components are now recycled, which doesn’t change the feel on the trail but does add some peace of mind. Pocket placement is fine for everyday wear, though a pack hipbelt can partially block access. The cuffs and hem sit cleanly, and the finish overall feels durable without being heavy-handed.
