Light, breathable, and built for movement, this wind shell is made for ridgelines and high-output days. A strong all-rounder for fast and light missions.
Outdoor Research says:
The Shadow Wind Hoodie is an ultralight, stretchy, and supremely comfortable wind shell, designed for high-output activities in the alpine and beyond.
Our Verdict
The Shadow Wind Hoodie from Outdoor Research balances wind protection and breathability with a comfortable stretch. At 149g (Medium), it feels soft and quiet next to skin, with more give than most ultralight shells. The fit is trim but allows space for a thin midlayer. Those with broader chests may prefer to size up.
The nylon-spandex blend handles moderate wind well and dries quickly after intense climbs or runs. Ventilation is strong, especially given the shell’s solid wind resistance. The hood stows neatly into the collar, a welcome feature. The hand and chest pockets are generous, and the chest pocket doubles as a stuff sack.
This piece fills a reliable gap between minimalist wind shells and heavier softshells.
