Our Verdict
The Rab Shield Mitts are a waterproof shell layer designed to slip over your chosen glove system. At 70g (Medium), they provide no insulation of their own but are intentionally oversized to accommodate liners or insulated gloves beneath. This makes them well-suited to wet snow or prolonged rain, where keeping your main gloves dry is crucial.
The Pertex Shield fabric is reliably waterproof and breathable for a 3-layer shell. Reinforced palms enhance grip on poles or tools, and the cuff adjustment ensures a secure fit over sleeves. They fold away small, yet when needed, deliver dependable protection. Durability is good for their weight, with the reinforcement helping to resist abrasion.
