Our Verdict
At 235g (UK 12), this fleece offers excellent moisture management and thermal regulation during sustained effort. The R1 Air fabric uses a zigzag-knit pattern with hollow-core polyester yarns, which enhances airflow and moisture transfer while keeping weight low. Unlike traditional grid fleece, it feels lofted yet airier, drying faster and breathing better during aerobic movement. The quarter zip provides useful venting without bulk, and the offset shoulder seams improve comfort under a pack. The cut is trim through the torso and sleeves; those with broader shoulders or layering plans may prefer to size up. The chest pocket is low-profile and sits flat under outer layers. Abrasion resistance is modest, and pilling can develop where the fabric rubs against pack straps or harnesses. For weight-conscious layering in dry conditions, the Zip Neck delivers consistent comfort with a technical focus on breathability and drying speed.
