Our Verdict
Rab's newly updated VR Alpine Light Jacket is still arguably the most versatile in the VR range. The VR is surprisingly warm for such a low-weight piece, The use of VR Wicking and VR Airflow ensures this jacket is focused on providing maximum breathability and warmth with the technical ability to quickly and effectively wick moisture and help regulate temperature to an impressive level. No matter how hard you're going, this jacket will perform brilliantly to keep you comfortable.
The Pertex Quantum Air fabric used on the outer provides exceptional breathability without sacrificing protection from the wind and rain, with the addition of a good DWR coating. The VR Alpine Light sheds weight with limited features without losing the practical feel. It is undoubtedly more of a mid-layer for all-year-round use but excels in the cooler months. Two decent chest pockets provide storage, while the elasticated hood and cuffs keep things lightweight and straightforward.
