Our Verdict
The Smartwool Active Ultralite Long Sleeve Tee weighs 151g in Medium and uses a Merino-TENCEL blend that feels natural but dries quicker than standard Merino. I really value that mix—it strikes the right balance between next-to-skin comfort and moisture control during long climbs or high-output days. It’s also odour-resistant, which makes it particularly useful for extended trips.
The fit is on the relaxed side, so if you prefer something closer to the body, you might want to size down. The stitching is tidy and unobtrusive, and the fabric doesn’t rub under a pack. It’s not the toughest piece I own, but that’s an acceptable compromise given how light and breathable it is.
This is my go-to baselayer, especially for multi-day hiking. I own three.
