Our Verdict
The Mountain Equipment Aerofoil Boonie is a simple piece of kit that does its job with minimal fuss. At 51g (S/M), it’s light enough to forget it’s there, and the EXOLITE soft shell fabric keeps things breathable and quick-drying. The stiffened brim holds shape well in the wind, and while it doesn’t fully cover the neck, it offers solid sun protection for most angles — great for high trails and open ridgelines. The rear cord adjustment and optional chin strap keep things secure when the wind picks up, and the packability is spot on for stashing in a side pocket.
