Our Verdict
Modern tents are designed to be used quite successfully without a footprint, and we would only recommend taking one if you expect to be camping on quite stony ground; however, Using a footprint makes your tent floor last a lot longer than not using one so if you wish to actively extend the life of your tent and don't mind the extra weight we always recommend using them.
