Sea to Summit's Alpha Pots are an excellent design, they have a very positive handle with good heat insulation and easy to read volume graduations. The locking handle mechanism takes a bit of getting used to - then you like it!

Sea to Summit says:

Designed to add functional performance to your backcountry camp kitchen, the Alpha Pot is a strong and lightweight cook system ideal for solo or group use. Constructed from a hard anodized alloy, it is durable, abrasion-resistant and very easy-to-clean. We've incorporated some clever technology like the Pivot-Lock handle that securely locks into place during use and folds away when stored, a unique slotted strainer pattern for easy flow, and a silicone Lid Keep which hooks to the side of the pot when cooking. Delta Light dinnerware is compatible with Alpha Pots and nests inside to create a compact and comprehensive camp kitchen set.

Our Verdict

Sea to Summit's Alpha Pots are very accomplished cooking pots. The standout feature is the swivel handle, there are a few cooking pots on the market which have a locking mechanism to keep the lid in place on the pot when you are not using it - this is a really good feature because you'll be storing stuff inside the pot while it's in your rucksack. The one on the Alpha Pots takes a bit of getting used to but once you've learned the technique it works.

The handle is also notable because of the silicone grip which is much more effective than on other camp cooking pots I've used.

Other features of the Alpha pots are good too, relatively easy to read volume graduations on the inside of the pan, the drain hole feature is a great design, other companies might just put some holes in, but the slots in the Alpha Pots just work better. The Alpha Pots also nest with each other and Delta crockery, they nest so well that Sea To Summit also sell them as sets.

Some niggly points, the top handle on the lid is quite small and fiddly, especially on the big sizes of Alpha Pots; and all the instructions for the pots are printed on the outside in five languages, which doesn't affect the functionality of the pot but might not be what you want.

Overall the Alpha Pots are an excellent choice of hard anodised aluminium camp cookware, weight is kept to a minimum by using relatively thin pressings.
