Our Verdict
Montane's Alpine 850 Down Mitts offer a huge amount of warmth in a big mitt design. With an impressively long gauntlet style there is very little chance of the cold getting into these. The combination of 850+ FP down along with Primaloft Gold synthetic insulation provides the benefits of both materials. With box wall construction usually seen on top down jackets and sleeping bags the down stays where it needs to.
The durable grip across the palm works really well when you have practical tasks to do and don't want to take the mitts off. Other features that make these mitts more user friendly are the simple but effective cinch around the wrist along with basic, elasticated leashes. There are also loops to help taking the mitts off and hanging them upside down to minimise snow getting in. An impressive pack size, low weight and warmth for a mitt at this price.
