Our Verdict
Outdoor Research's Helium Rain Mitts are simple, lightweight and effective waterproof mitts. They use Pertex Shield fabric keep out the worst of the weather. Designed to be worn on their own or over a thin running glove the minimalist design has simple pull on loops for ease of use when wearing a liner glove. There is plenty of room inside the mitt to stay comfortable.
They are designed to meet the mandatory kit requirement so they are not going to be durable mitts for hiking with poles etc. However, they are really lightweight, take up next to no room in a pocket and do the job well. I've used these to keep out the rain but more often than not simply as a line of protection against cold winds when conditions have worsened while running.
