Our Verdict
The Fitzroy Insulated Jacket offers excellent warmth, weather resistance and reliability for winter climbing, mountaineering or static use in exposed environments.
Weighing 649 g (Medium), it uses PrimaLoft Gold Hi-Loft Ultra insulation with Cross Core aerogel technology, mapped for warmth where it matters most. The Drilite Loft 30D shell is completely windproof and highly water-resistant, with a PFAS-free DWR for added protection. The result is a dependable synthetic layer that stays warm even when damp, making it a practical alternative to down in wet, cold conditions.
Fit is technical yet accommodating, with good sleeve articulation. The hood adjusts neatly at the crown and around the face, which can be cinched when the jacket is zipped up, which works well for winter use. Dual hem drawcords and elasticated cuffs provide an effective seal, with the cuffs sitting slightly back so the insulation extends over the wrist for extra warmth.
The hand pockets are lined with a soft, high-pile fleece and sit behind the insulation, making them exceptionally warm, a real highlight. Inside, there’s a large dump pocket for gloves and a zipped security pocket for valuables. The Fitzroy remains a benchmark for dependable synthetic warmth and protection in harsh winter conditions.
