A versatile hybrid mitt offering warmth, dexterity, and reliable protection in cold, changeable weather.
Mountain Equipment says:
A convertible soft shell mitt for climbing, hiking or working in cold and changeable weather.
Easily changing from the warmth of a lightweight mitt to the complete dexterity of a fingerless glove, the Combi Mitt is a favourite with rock climbers, alpinists and professional users alike. The mitt stows away neatly; the Goatskin leather palm ensures ruggedness.
Our Verdict
The G2 Alpine Combi Mitt is an excellent choice when you need both fine control and dependable warmth. The fold-over mitt design works smoothly, allowing quick transitions between covered and finger-free use, ideal for handling gear or adjusting clothing in the cold. The goatskin palm provides a firm grip, while the softshell blocks wind effectively without feeling clammy.
Breathability is good during active use, especially when you fold the mitts over to vent quickly, and the fleece lining provides just enough insulation for most alpine or winter hill conditions. While not fully waterproof, the water resistance is more than adequate for snow. Over time, the leather will benefit from regular care to maintain durability. For mixed climbing, winter walking, or technical routes, it’s a practical and well-thought-out piece of kit.
