Our Verdict
At around 75 g, the Gore-Tex Ice Cap combines a waterproof outer with a soft fleece lining that traps warmth effectively without feeling bulky. The fit is snug, wrapping well around the ears and neck to block out draughts, while the foldable wired peak keeps rain and snow from the eyes. The detachable chin strap provides stability in strong winds, and the fold-up design makes it easy to stow when not in use.
The rear adjustment toggle secures the fit well, though it can be fiddly with gloves until you become familiar with it. The overall construction feels solid, and the materials handle prolonged damp and cold conditions confidently. For freezing, wet hill days or winter treks, this cap offers an excellent blend of warmth, protection and practicality with minimal fuss.
