Our Verdict
The Smartwool Hike Targeted Cushion Ankle Socks feel dialled in straight from the off. The merino blend manages moisture and temperature well, even during long, warm climbs. I found the padding hits just where it’s needed under the heel and ball of the foot, offering comfort without bulk. The snug fit, aided by Smartwool’s updated 4 Degree system, keeps the sock in place — no slipping, no bunching. They’ve held up well after repeated use and washes, though I’m careful to line-dry them to preserve the shape.
