The perfect climbing hoody to wear as an extra layer on cool mornings or long evenings at the crag, made with breathable, four-way stretch fleece.

Rab says:

Built with Thermic™ G, a 92% recycled, four-way stretch fleece, the Dihedral Hoody offers a great balance of mobility, warmth, breathability, and comfort. Highly efficient when you start to push it, this grid backed fleece regulates your temperature and wicks moisture away. It has a refined, articulated sleeve design with an underarm gusset for improved arm lift and has been designed to have a slight rise at the sides to allow for unrestricted leg movement. The cuffs and hem have a lightly elasticated binding that keeps it in place and protects from the wind.

Built with a deep kangaroo-style pocket for plunging cold hands between climbs and a form fitting hood, designed to stay up without adjustment. The ⅓ centre front zip allows for easy pull-on or off, or for dumping heat when the sun hits the rock.

The Dihedral Hoody has a casual style for everyday use, but it really excels on the wall. Ideal as part of a layering system, for warming up on cool mornings, or for pulling on at the end of a summer day on the rock.

Our Verdict

The Rab Dihedral Hoody is a cross between a heavier weight base layer and a light fleece top as it offers a high level of warmth next to the skin but is also effective at wicking away moisture. Therefore it is suitable for a range of different activities from summer to winter use, and is a great part of any layering system.

The grid backed fleece design is what makes it superb at removing the moisture as the channels between the squares allow the moisture to flow away from the body and not get trapped in the fleece, so I found that there were no damp or cold patches when stopping for a drink, and I remained warm without having to drag extra layers out of my bag.

In terms of fit the Hoody is fairly long so there is no risk of it riding up and allowing unwanted air to get in and t is more of a loose fit so offers a high level of mobility.  There is also a generous length to the sleeves so it is suitable for those of a longer arm and the stretch means that it is comfortable even if it is big baggy in the arms. The hood is definitely designed with climbing and winter mountaineering in mind as it is a very generous fit allowing a lot of stretch to fit over the top of a helmet, but for just covering your head it was very baggy and has no capacity for adjustment.
