Our Verdict
I'm a fan of a vest as an insulating layer; they are the most versatile kit, just as useful in summer as in the winter. This lightweight insulation piece will add only a little warmth, there is some insulation, but the vest's main job is protecting your core from the wind.
The LIM Alpha Vest utilises Gore-Tex Infinium, specifically designed to block the wind; this keeps your core warm on windy days. The vest breathes incredibly well. The Polartec® Alpha® insulation is also the lining of the vest; this works with your baselayer to move moisture away from the body and allows air to circulate, adding warmth.
LIM stands for less is more, so this jacket's feature set has been stripped right back; you only have one pocket, a Napoleon pocket with a zip to keep valuables safe. The armholes and hem are elasticated for an excellent tight fit that won't allow any cool air in, but it can not be tailers with a drawcord.
