Our Verdict

Made from Gore-Tex’s bluesign-approved 2-layered fabric, this is a very light, but heavy-duty construction. With a Hydrostatic Head of 28,000 and a Thermal Evaporative Resistance (RET) of 4.5, this jacket boasts some  impressive stats, but even with such a high level of breathability, you can still run hot and sweaty when working hard, the Foray jacket has come up with a unique and innovative solution…the biggest pit-zips on the market.

The famous TorsoFlo zips extend from the armpit of the jacket, right the way down to the hem.  The dual zip design means you can tailor the amount of airflow through the jacket, from completely zipped up, to the jacket almost becoming a cape or poncho, if you choose to completely unzip the jacket. This novel design, make for unparalleled ventilation.

The hood is fully adjustable and offers very good protection, my only caveat, is that the peak of the hood isn’t stiffened with wire but more of a foam, this makes the jacket more packable, but I prefer the protection of a wired peak, this is completely personal, but worthy of note.

A zipped chest pocket, protected by a YKK Aquaguard Zip provides a good place to store keys and valuables.  2 hand warming pockets are large and elongate up into the jacket, which is a nice feature if using a rucksack or harness.  The main front zip again is protected by an Aquaguard zip and backed with a storm flap for ultimate protection.

It’s a nice fit with plenty of room to layer up without being baggy and blowing about in strong winds. The jacket can be cinched at the cuffs with Velcro fastenings, and a drawcord that runs around the hem, the fastenings of which are neatly stored inside the jacket so you don’t have to worry about them snagging or tangling.

I'm very impressed with this jacket, it offers a lot of protection, has fantastic ventilating options and is impressively only 344g (Medium size).  For the price, weight and weatherproofing, this jacket stands above other competitors in this bracket.
