A lightweight, versatile waterproof using Pertex Shield 2.5 Layer with recycled outer, a fluorocarbon free DWR, and a recycled membrane. Its recycled credentials plus a soft and comfortable handle, make this jacket ideal for hiking and hillwalking.

Rab says:

Whether you’re a weekend walker or a seasoned hiker, our recycled Downpour Eco Jacket is the trail-friendly choice. Built from recycled 2.5-layer Pertex® Revolve fabric with a fluorocarbon-free DWR treatment, it is our first ever mono-polymer waterproof jacket. It uses a polyester outer and membrane, which means that, in addition to being 100% recycled, it also has the future potential to be fully recycled at the end of its life.

Waterproof to 20,000 HH with an MVTR breathability rating of 20,000g, it features a pair of zipped handwarmer pockets large enough for a map, alongside an integrated stuff sack for an easy carry. To help tailor the fit to the conditions, it uses an adjustable hem and cuffs, plus a two-way adjustable hood with polymer peak. Lightweight and packable, it also comes with a pair of deep-venting pit zips to keep you fresh and in control when the pace, the trail or the temperature climbs.

Our Verdict

Rab's Downpour Eco Jacket uses Pertex Shield Revolve which is recycled material with impressive green credentials. The outer fabric is also 100% recycled, hence the 'Eco' name. The 20,000 HH rating and 20,000 MVTR are pretty impressive on a jacket with this price tag. Features wise the jacket has a non-helmet compatible hood with flexible peak, which will benefit most people who will never use a helmet outdoors. The hood is adjustable along with a drawstring hem and Velcro cuffs to help you keep the weather out.

Overall the jacket uses tougher 50D fabric and more suited to general, all-round outdoor use. It isn't as lightweight as many others on the market but it is certainly more durable and provides amazing value for money with the set of features combined with the levels of waterproofing and breathability.
