A unique and unusually designed tent that I'm a big fan of! The Stony Brook had a lot of internal space and headroom, was quick and easy to pitch and offered a lot of gear storage.

Robens says:

The Stoney Brook 3 tunnel tent sleeps three with sitting head room throughout. The tent clips onto an external frame that has a ridge pole to extend front and back porches. This provides the storage and access versatility required by three occupants. The porches have a partial groundsheet to protect content while providing ‘wet’ access where boots can be left. Each porch has a side door that folds to one side. This features a double zip so the door can be cracked open at the top for ventilation.

Our Verdict

Firstly I would not use this as a three-person tent; two adults and a small child or a dog would work, but three adults would feel cramped. That being said, as a two-person shelter, I like this tent.

If using this duo, you have a lot of space inside the tent for a double mat or two wide mats; you each have a vestibule or one entrance for gear and one to cook in.

It's straightforward to pitch, and the inner and outer go up together, so you are not exposing the inner to the elements. Insert the external pole structure into the grommets, then clip onto the poles; it took less than 5 minutes the first time I put the tent up.

The tunnel-style shape of the tent, along with the DAC aluminium poles, means this is a very rigid tent in high winds, and as you can open both doors, you can get a lot of airflow through the tent, which reduces condensation.

My main concern with this tent is its weight, which is almost 3kgs, which is fine if you are car camping, but if you want to head up into the hills, I suggest splitting the tent's weight with your partner.
