The Rab Torque pant is a closer fitting softshell pant with great wind blocking abilities and a few extra features that lends itself to a wide range of outdoor activities. The Torque pant has had a few design tweaks from it's last incarnation including a reflective logo and a lower profile pull for the zipper.
These are lightweight, close fitting and well reinforced trekking pants around the knees and ankles, making it able to take some knocks up on the hills.

Constructed from lightweight Matrix™ double-weave fabric with four-way stretch for the ultimate freedom of movement, the Women’s Alpine Torque Pants also feature contrasting knee reinforcement panels that extend to the ankle for outstanding abrasion resistance. The slim-fit design uses a leg zip with internal gusset for extra space and ventilation, as well as lower hem loops for attaching to your boots. Three zipped pockets provide valuable storage space, while a part-elasticated waistband with belt loops provides a comfortable and secure fit.
Light, comfortable and highly durable, our Women’s Alpine Torque Pants are a technical climbing pant that are also versatile enough for hillwalking and scrambling.
Our Verdict
The Rab Torque pants have had a few small changes for 2020 along with a new colour palette. These include a logo rework which is now reflective & a lower profile pull on the fly zipper.
The Torque pant is suited to those who prefer a closer fit and less material flapping in the wind, unlike the more common ‘bootleg’ cut of traditional trekking pants. Utilising Matrix softshell fabric the pants do a great job of blocking the wind when out and about and a DWR will also help keep a little rain off before having to don your shell trousers. Another advantage of Matrix is the mechanical stretch, allowing for better manoeuvrability and overall comfort.
Reinforcements are found on the knee, which then runs to the inside of your ankle to protect the fabric from boot scuffs. There is also a more breathable fabric found behind the knee to help vent the trousers that little bit better. There is also a zip closure at the cuff and two webbing loops for under boot attachment.
The Torque pants have been a favourite in the BG office for some years and with the small changes introduced we see them staying up there as our ‘go anywhere, do anything’ outdoor/climbing pant.
