Our Verdict
Altra’s Timp Hiker GTX answers the calls of many hikers for a "traditional" hiking boot from the zero-drop, roomie-toe box brand. Unlike the Lone Peak All-WTHR Mid, the Timp Hiker is a "true" hiking boot, featuring a Gore-tex membrane and Vibram sole. It also comes with Gore's waterproof guarantee for added assurance.
The Timp hikers boast a stack height of 29mm, equipped with an upgraded EGO MAX midsole that enhances energy return. This advanced midsole technology delivers a cushioned, buoyant stride, reducing foot fatigue during extended road sections and compact trail excursions.
With its superior grip and durability, the Vibram sole guarantees exceptional performance on diverse terrains, excelling in both wet and dry conditions.
Compared to Altra's characteristic roomy toe box, the Timp has a narrower fit due to a "natural" shaped toe box. It is suggested to size up by half a size in the Timp hiker, based on feedback from others, including Altra themselves.
