A very cushioned workhorse of a hiking boot that utilizes a grippy Vibram sole, a thick cushioned EVA midsole and a Gore-Tex membrane to help keep your feet dry.
Hoka One One says:
A workhorse for sloppy, wet conditions, the Speedgoat 5 Mid GTX is built with the same GORE-TEX membrane
as its lower profile counterpart, along with a soft heel tab to accommodate the Achilles and flexible collar for
extra ankle support. Grounded in Vibram® Megagrip with Traction Lug for enhanced grip on loose soil, this
trail icon employs a foot-cradling heel bolster, rubber toe cap, and gusseted tongue to keep trail debris at bay.
Our Verdict
The Speedgoat 5 mid GTX are an upgrade to one of the more popular trail shoes on the market, utilising Hoka’s trademark well-cushioned midsole and a tried and tested Vibram sole; these work well, on the road or on the trail, in wet and dry, weather ascending or descending.
I like the higher-heel cup; it’s well-cushioned, incredibly comfortable, and supportive around the ankle . The flat tongue ensures an excellent tight fit.
The Gore-Tex membrane has done a good job of keeping my feet dry; however, water will get over the top if you’re in seriously boggy ground.
