A lightweight and compact bike-packing tent at a price that's perfect for campers on a budget who don't want to compromise on stability and performance.

Vango says:

Introducing our exciting, lightweight and innovative Apex Series, designed for adventurers who need a compact, high quality, lightweight tent. As part of our Earth Collection, the Apex is made using 70D Protex® Eco fabric, created from recycled single-use plastics. Unique to Apex is the 30cm pole sections which make it ideal for packing light on any adventure, from mountaineering, hiking and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award activities to bike packing, as it’s unique pack design can attach to bike handlebars. The Apex makes excellent use of your available space and has a number of other features from strong PoweLite Alloy Poles, part mesh doors for ventilation in summer or use abroad and O-Shaped that make it easy to open with one hand and also frames those views.

Our Verdict

The 30cm poles sections on this tent make it a nice compact size, perfect for any backpacking adventure, as the tent will neatly store on your handlebars.

The single pole structure of the Apex Compact makes it incredibly easy and quick to erect tent. Insert the pole through the middle section of the tent, then peg out the corners the tent pitches inner and outer simultaneously.

Inside the tent, you have room for one to comfortably bed down, with room for gear and an amble vestibule. Though this is a two-person tent, it only has one door and one vestibule; I would say that, yes, you can fit two inside, but it won't be a particularly comfortable night, especially if you're trying to squeeze two people's kit inside. Co-habiting would be fine for a quick one-night away, but I wouldn't like to be on a longer trip.

As I say, this is an excellent backpacking tent, but it's also on the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Recommended Kit; for its price and stability, it's easy to recommend.
