The Mountain Arete LB is one of the lightest weight synthetic jackets on the market, that is dule sided for both providing insulation and as a breathable layer for more rigorous activities.

Our Verdict
The Mountain Arete LB Synthetic Hoody is the lightweight member of Berghaus' new re-introduced Extrem range, that fits a range of different uses and is one of if on the lightest Synthetic jacket on the market.
The main thing that stands out about the Arete LB is the fact that it is reversable offering two jackets in one meaning that the range of uses is larger than your normal synthetic. One side is a windproof layer that offers protection from the chill while moving and keeps you insulated. The other side has a more breathable fabric that allows the wind to pass through cooling you down when your work rate is higher and you need some loose some heat.
This dual function means that it is the perfect jacket for a number of uses and allows you to switch between these uses, the insulated side is perfect for use on the bike, a quick trip outside on a cooler day, or as a lightweight mid layer. The breathable side is good for when you need to move fast on a winter trail run or on a fast ascent.
Unfortunately, this could do probably do with an integrated stuff sack, but I managed to easily pack it down into its own pocket and zip it up and it has a very small pack size so would take up very little room in any rucksack.
The fit is looser so if you size normally then there is space to get a fleece underneath, but if you want a closer fit the I would suggest a size down.
The Arete LB has such a variety of use and given its weight would be perfect just to always keep in your bag no matter what the season or activity, it is certainly a step forward in synthetic jackets.
