Our Verdict
The Ortlieb Vario is a waterproof pannier that attaches to the bike with the quick-lock release system. At 26 litres it has a sizeable capacity for touring, commuting or day to day use. The 2 in 1 system converts the pannier into a backpack by removing the 6 toggles on the pocketed cover and flipping it to the opposite side of the pannier to reveal the backpack straps. The straps are padded and have good length adjustment. The chest strap is adjustable in length and has 5 positions to position it on the shoulder strap, though this is a bit awkward to remove to switch positions, though once set it is unlikely to need moving.
